The Good Neighbor Program · Charlotte

Comfort for our community. Hope for neighbors in need.

Comfort Done Right.

Every fall, T. Byrd's, now Tru72 Heating & Cooling, installs heating and cooling systems for a few Charlotte-area households, at no cost to the families selected. Nominations stay open year-round.

Anyone can nominate. Yourself, a family member, a neighbor, someone you know through your community.

The idea is simple.

Why we do this.

Carolina summers and winters don’t wait for a household to figure out a new system.

Most of our installs go on an invoice. A few each year do not, because the household couldn’t otherwise afford a working system.

Same crew. Same standard. No bill.

Three steps. Nothing complicated.

  1. Nominate

Anyone can submit a nomination. Yourself, a family member, a neighbor, someone you know through your community.

  2. Review

Each fall, we read every nomination from the year and look for households where a new system would make the biggest difference.

  3. Install

The household is contacted. We schedule, install the right-sized system, and commission it before we leave. No cost.

How households are chosen. Plainly.

Priority goes to households where the system has failed and a fix isn’t financially possible.

  1. Owner-occupied primary residences anywhere in the Charlotte-market service area.

  2. Eligible with landlord coordination. We work with the property owner to confirm install authorization before scheduling.

  3. The 23 towns of our Charlotte service area, dispatched from the Concord office.

  4. The existing system has failed or is failing, and a repair or replacement isn’t financially possible for the household.

  5. Seniors, veterans, families with young children, and households with someone living with a disability or chronic illness.

  6. A working HVAC system would materially change the household’s safety, health, or quality of life.

If the household you want to nominate sits at the edge of our radius, submit anyway and call (980) 385-7599 — some nearby towns are still reachable. There is no form of words that improves a nomination’s odds. Tell us plainly what the household is dealing with, and we’ll read it.

About the Good Neighbor Program.

The questions people ask before they nominate someone.

Who can be nominated for the Good Neighbor Program?

Anyone living in our North Carolina service area can be nominated. Homeowners and renters are both eligible — we coordinate with the landlord when a renter is selected. Priority is given to households experiencing genuine financial hardship around HVAC repair or replacement, and to seniors, veterans, families with young children, and households with someone living with a disability or chronic illness.

Who can submit a nomination?

Anyone. Nominate yourself, a family member, a neighbor, or someone you know through your community. Nominations stay open year-round.

When are recipients selected?

Each fall, the Tru72 leadership team reviews every nomination received that year and looks for households where a new system would make the biggest difference. Selected households are contacted directly. There is no public announcement of recipients.

Is there a deadline?

Nominations stay open year-round. The review happens in the fall, so nominations submitted by late summer are considered for that year. Nominations submitted later roll forward into the following year’s review.

What does the family receive?

Tru72 installs a right-sized heating and cooling system in the household at no cost. The same crew runs the install. The system is sized using Manual J load calculations, installed to the same standard as a paid job, and commissioned before the crew leaves.

Does the recipient need to live in Tru72’s service area?

Yes. The Charlotte Good Neighbor Program serves the same cities Tru72 dispatches to every day. If the household you want to nominate sits at the edge of the radius, submit anyway — we’ll tell you if it falls outside what we can reach.

Can I nominate more than one household?

Yes. Submit a separate nomination for each household, so the team can review each one on its own merits.

Does a nomination cost anything, or obligate anyone?

No. There is no cost to nominate and no cost to the families selected — the system, the install and the commissioning are all covered.

Will our story be made public?

Only with permission. All nominations are kept confidential, and we don’t share a recipient’s story without their permission.

What happens after a nomination is submitted?

The household itself is not contacted until the fall review, and only if they are selected. Nominators are not notified of the selection outcome. If the household is selected, Tru72 reaches out to coordinate directly.

What if the household isn’t selected?

Every nomination is read, but selection isn’t guaranteed. If a system still needs replacing, the same $72 diagnostic, the same flat-rate pricing in writing and the North Carolina rebate programs are all still available.

Sometimes comfort means helping a neighbor.

Staying safe through the summer, or warm through the winter. That matters to us. Nominations stay open year-round.
