Catch the July breakdown before it happens. Two seasonal tune-ups a year through Tru Comfort — measured rather than glanced at — with priority scheduling when something does go sideways. $14.99 a month.
A few patterns we hear most in the summer. Any one of them is reason enough to schedule a diagnostic.
The thermostat is set, the unit's running, but the second floor stays warm.
Same usage, same thermostat, noticeably higher utility statement.
Vents blowing, but the house never drops to the set point.
A bedroom, a sunroom, a bonus room over the garage.
Usually a refrigerant or airflow problem — not a sign to thaw it and restart.
Hums, rattles, hissing, or short cycling on a hot afternoon.
We diagnose properly, write the price before any work begins, and tell the truth about whether it's repair or replacement.
$72 to come out on a repair, credited toward the work. Free in-home consultation on new installs. Schedule online in about 90 seconds.
Every AC call starts with the gauges, the meters and the camera. We don't tell you what's wrong until we've actually measured it. Here is what each instrument tells us, in plain language.
Pressures and temperatures at the coil, not a glance at the gauges. A system low on charge and a system with a blocked coil look identical from the driveway.
What it means: Adding refrigerant to a leak is a repair you pay for twice. Measuring first tells us which one you have.
Static pressure across the coil and the return, and blower amp draw. Undersized returns and leaking ducts cause the same hot upstairs bedroom that a failing compressor does, and cost a great deal less to fix.
What it means: Sometimes the answer isn't a new system. If your unit has another five years in it, we'll say so.
Draw at the contactor and the compressor, capacitor tested under load, read against the manufacturer's own spec rather than against how the part looks.
A capacitor reading 12 µF against a 35 µF spec — that's the failure. Not a symptom.
What it means: You pay to fix the part that's actually broken, not the expensive one someone guessed at.
| What is being compared | A typical call | A Tru72 call |
|---|---|---|
| Diagnosis | Guess first. Swap the part that usually fails and see whether it holds. | Measure first. Refrigerant pressures, static pressure and electrical draw read before anything is quoted. |
| Repair or replace | Replace first. A repair on an older system becomes a replacement quote. | Diagnose first. If your unit has another five years in it, we'll say so. |
| Sizing a replacement | Same size as the old one, right or wrong. | Manual J load calculation against your actual home — square footage, ceiling heights, windows, insulation. |
| Charging the system | Topped up until the gauge looks right. | Charged to manufacturer spec and verified at the coil after the work. |
| The price | A number at the end of the visit, after the work. | Flat-rate, in writing, before a wrench turns. The $72 diagnostic credits toward it. |
What it means: An oversized system short cycles, never pulls the humidity out, and wears out in half the time. Measuring is how you avoid buying one.
Five steps, every time, whether it's a capacitor or a new system.
Online in about 90 seconds, or by phone. Same-day and next-day appointments are available most days, schedule permitting, and after hours you reach our team.
$72 flat on a repair call to come out and find the actual fault. On an installation or replacement the in-home consultation is free and includes a Manual J load calculation.
The price in plain terms, in writing, before any work begins. The $72 credits toward the repair if you go ahead. No pressure to upgrade if it isn't time.
The fault gets fixed, or the new system goes in sized to the load rather than to the old unit's badge. Every major brand serviced; Daikin and Goodman installed.
We re-measure after the work, so you know the system is performing before we leave.
We service every major brand. When a system does need replacing, these are the two we install — and here is why each one is worth having.
Inverter-driven, ultra-quiet, high-SEER2
Daikin is the global leader in heat pump technology. Inverter-driven variable-speed operation matches output to demand minute by minute, so you get tighter temperature control, lower operating noise and stronger efficiency.
Solid efficiency, strong warranty, accessible price
Goodman is the workhorse of the Daikin family in North America. Systems that hit modern efficiency targets at an approachable price point, with a warranty among the strongest in the industry — which matters when the system needs to last 15 to 20 years.
What it means: SEER2 is the efficiency rating on the label. A higher number means the same cooling for less electricity.
Two seasonal tune-ups a year cover most of what goes wrong, and members save 10% on every repair and 5% on new equipment. $14.99 a month or $180 a year, per system. Free for first responders, teachers, and military through the Mission Ready Plan.
If the diagnostic points at replacement rather than repair, this is the money that is already on the table. We check it before you commit to anything.
| Program | What it covers | Amount |
|---|---|---|

| Duke Energy Smart $aver | High-efficiency HVAC, heat pumps, smart thermostats, insulation, duct sealing | Depends on the equipment and your account |
| ENERGY STAR Rebate Finder | Certified systems, cross-referenced against your ZIP code | Depends on the manufacturer and utility offers live that month |
| Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit | Qualifying high-efficiency equipment, administered by the IRS | Consult your tax professional |
| NC electric cooperatives | Additional local incentives beyond the statewide programs | Check with your local cooperative |
Whether you qualify depends on your household and the equipment. We'll check it on the visit, before you commit to anything.
The repair page: what the $72 buys, what the visit looks like, and what it costs.
One system, two Carolina seasons. Often the better answer when the AC is due for replacement anyway.
For additions, sunrooms and bonus rooms the central system never quite reaches.
The questions Raleigh homeowners ask most often before picking the right AC service for their situation.
Start with the diagnostic. The $72 visit measures what's actually going on, and we'll tell you honestly. If your unit has another five years in it, we'll say so and quote the repair. If it doesn't, you'll get a written quote on a replacement you can compare against any other shop. No upsell on a repair call.
We service every major brand — Carrier, Trane, Lennox, Rheem, Goodman, Amana, Daikin, York, Bryant, American Standard, Heil, Mitsubishi, and more. For new systems, we primarily install Daikin and Goodman equipment. Repair work covers the full market regardless of brand.
Same-day or next-day service is available most days, schedule permitting. In peak Triangle heat waves we sometimes run a day or two behind; Tru Comfort members get priority scheduling and front-of-line slots. After-hours calls are answered by our team in real time.
Yes. We finance through GreenSky. Most install customers are pre-approved before the install date. Pricing for the new system is quoted in writing after a free in-home consultation that includes a Manual J load calculation, sizing the system to your home, not a sales target.
Same diagnostic discipline the family has carried since 1972. $72 to come out on a repair, credited toward the work. Free in-home consultation on new systems.
